Captain Joseph Patrick CoghlanCaptian Joseph Patrick Coghlan became magistrate of Vreed-en-Hoop during the ending of the 1920s. He occupied the building which became the first West Demerara school. His popularity in the town is apparent in the fact that a road two blocks away was named Coghlan Dam. He was an advocate for bridging the Demerara river, which finally happened in 1978, 20 years after his death. |
